The Chess Federation of Norway organised chess promoting initiative on 23rd March, 2015.
On Monday, March 23, the discussion will be brought up before Parliament, where a number of prominent politicians and representatives of chess community will be present.
World Champion Magnus Carlsen, chess legend Garry Kasparov and Bård Vegar Solhjell (SV) are among those who are present when Norwegian Chess Federation will convince people that one mandatory chess hour a week for the country’s third or fourth graders is a good idea.
The aim is initially to get to a pilot project in the school who can prove that chess is useful for school children, and who can lay the groundwork to get chess on schedule in Norwegian schools.
“Been hard at work on my book, Winter Is Coming, but had to make time for this great chess in schools promotion event at the Norwegian parliament with world champion Magnus Carlsen. Chess not only has many great benefits for kids — concentration, logic, competition across every gap — but it’s also inexpensive and fun.” – Garry Kasparov
